"Beautiful Barrie" is known as Central Ontario's Premier Waterfront City, and it's a great place to call home! In fact it was our home for 13 years before we recently moved just down the road to Innisfil. So many families are moving to Barrie because the simple fact is "Barrie has got it ight". It's such a great community and there is a real quality of life here. It's the perfect mix of young and older families. There's a gorgeous waterfront that is still being improved to provide more green space and extra facilites for the residents and public alike. Although residents do enjoy free parking facilities in designated beach area lots.
Here you can enjoy a four season lifestyle. There is something for every age group to do plus great shopping, fine dining, theatre, fishing, sailing sports and the list goes on. Most neighbourhoods have amenities and services that you just can't find in most larger ciites and being close to ski hills, numerous golf clubs and hiking trails doesn't hurt either. Many claim it's a way better and safer place to bring up your kids compared to other areas because the crime rate is low.
Barrie is centrally located along the central corridor of Yonge Street with Toronto about an hours drive to the south and Muskoka and cottage country an hours drive north. Catch the "GO" train from the Waterfront or South End stations to Union Station or take the "GO" Bus. Barrie offers the accessability, frienliness and beauty of a small town but with valuable amenities of a larger city.
Lower housing costs are a major factor why so many move here. You can easily get a lovely home for about half the cost in the GTA. Another is health care. The Royal Victoria Hospital is the largest hospital in the region of Simcoe Muskoka. RVH's tem of over 380 physicians, 2500 employees and 850 volunteers provide exceptional care and specialty services to almost half a million residents, including cancer care, stroke services, orthopaedics, intensive care, mental health and interventional radiology. RVH is focused on delivering high-quality, safe care that puts patients and their families first.
Education is also high on the list. Barrie has really great schools plus the largest of Georgian Collage's seven campuses is here This Campus is a community within a community - a welcoming and safe place to study, with all amenites you need.
Barrie boasts three major shopping districts as well as a trendy downtown. The North West area along Bayfield Street, the South west area along Mapleview Drive and the newest is the lifestyle centre "Park Place" a beautifully landscaped Retail Villiage, featuring attractive pedestrian-friendly shopping. It's a conveniently located open-air shopping experience directly off HWY 400 at Mapleview Drive East. Park Place is a 200 acre mixed-use development composed of retail, commercial and office uses. The shopping centre boasts an exciting mix of North American brand retailers, a major fitness centre and spa, fashion, speciality and restaurants plus lots of free parking.
The City of Barrie has and still is investing in numerous infrastructure improvements. This has attracted many businesses to build new offices, data centres, medical buildings and more and the future looks very bright. Needless to say there is much more Barrie has to offer than mentioned here but all in all, Barrie is a nucleus that truly has something for everyone!
